JR Pass prices rise for purchases from 1 October 2026: 7-day ¥50,000 → ¥53,000
This week's news · Checked 2026-09-01
What happened. For purchases through agents and registered shops outside Japan (including Klook and Malaysian agencies) from 1 October 2026, Japan Rail Pass prices rise:
| Pass | Before 1 Oct | From 1 Oct |
|---|---|---|
| 7-day, ordinary | ¥50,000 | ¥53,000 |
| 14-day | ¥80,000 | ¥84,000 |
| 21-day | ¥100,000 | ¥105,000 |
| 7-day, Green | ¥70,000 | ¥74,000 |
Children pay half. The official sales site (JAPAN RAIL PASS Reservation) keeps the old prices for now; the end date has not been announced.
What it means for you. A 6% rise doesn't change the main question: a 7-day pass (¥50,000) only pays off if you ride the shinkansen well beyond one Tokyo–Osaka return (≈¥29,000). If you do want one, buy before 1 October; the pass can be exchanged within 90 days.
