Typhoon No. 24 weakened — but Japan's typhoon season runs to early October

What happened. Typhoon No. 24 (international name Krovanh) weakened to a tropical depression over the sea south of Japan on 7 September 2026 without making landfall. It was the 24th typhoon of the year; the annual average is 25.

What it means for you. Japan's typhoon season runs from August to early October. Tokyo's rain in September–October (225–235 mm a month) is the highest of the year. If your trip falls in this window:

• Book flights and hotels that can be changed or cancelled free.
• Don't put Mt Fuji or other outdoor days first; keep them for days when the weather is certain.

When is it safe? After mid-October, typhoons rarely reach Honshu. October–November is the most comfortable window for Malaysians.
