Kyoto Railway Museum prices rise on 1 Mar 2027: December holidays stay at the old price, but avoid Wednesdays and 30 Dec–1 Jan

What happened. Kyoto Railway Museum, JR West's museum of steam locomotives, Shinkansen and a steam train you can ride, announced on 2 Nov 2026 that admission goes up from 1 Mar 2027 (Monday). Current prices stay until 28 Feb 2027. The driving simulator ticket price doesn't change (museum news release, checked 4 Nov 2026).

What it means for you.
- In Kyoto for the December school holidays: you still pay the old price. Two adults + an 8-year-old + a 5-year-old = 2 × ¥1,500 + ¥500 + ¥200 = ¥3,700 (about RM95 at the ECB rate of 3 Nov 2026). The same family from March: ¥4,700 (about RM121), ¥1,000 more.
- Riding the steam train: SL Steam for the same family is ¥800 now (2 × ¥300 + 2 × ¥100) and ¥1,200 from March.
- Closed days: the museum is closed on Wednesdays, but opens on public holidays and during Japanese school holidays. It is also closed 30 Dec – 1 Jan. So don't plan it for 30–31 Dec, and check the calendar on the official site if your day is a Wednesday.
- Coming in the March holidays: from 1 March, the adult advance ticket (¥1,800) is cheaper than the door price (¥1,900). For tickets with a validity period, the new price applies to tickets sold from 1 March; the museum will post details on its site.
- Opening hours: we couldn't open the museum's official site today, and third-party pages give different closing times (17:00 or 17:30). Check the official site before you go.
- Getting there: check the museum's official site for the nearest station and opening hours (the official site could not be opened on 4 Nov 2026; not yet verified by us).
- Prayer and food: the news release doesn't mention a prayer room. Prayer spaces and halal food around Kyoto Station are in our Kyoto halal food list.
