Sapporo Hotels for Muslim Families — a 24-Hour Prayer Room, Prayer Mats and Qibla, and December 2026 Prices for 4

We checked each hotel's facilities on 29 September 2026 on the hotel's official site, Welcome HOKKAIDO (Hokkaido Tourism Organization) and the airport's site, with source links. Prices are from Trip.com for 14–17 December 2026 (3 nights), 2 adults + children aged 8 and 5, checked 29 September 2026; prices change by date.

Short answer. In our check, only one hotel in Sapporo mentions a prayer room inside the hotel on its official site: HOTEL MYSTAYS Premier Sapporo Park, 4th floor, 24 hours, for hotel guests, a 2-minute walk from Nakajima-koen Station. 3 nights on 14–17 December: RM1,326 (triple room, free cancellation). If you want to be near Sapporo Station: New Otani Inn Sapporo lends prayer mats, a qibla with compass and the Quran to your room, and serves a halal set meal if you order 3 days ahead (¥4,000 per person); 3 nights RM1,162 with Trip.com's first-booking discount. None of the hotels we checked states a halal breakfast or names a certification body.

0. Choose by what matters most

Check your dates: Sapporo hotels for 2 adults + 2 kids on Trip.com (filter "free cancellation"). For comparison, the top 10 "Recommended for Families" hotels on Trip.com for the same dates were RM1,080–6,792 for 3 nights, and many of those prices include discounts for new users or members.

1. The three hotels, one by one

HOTEL MYSTAYS Premier Sapporo Park (Nakajima Park, Minami 9 Nishi 2)

• Prayer: "We have a prayer room available on-site for our guests to use 24 hours a day." 4th floor (official site). Welcome HOKKAIDO also lists an ablution space and hot water. The hotel says "for our guests"; it does not say whether non-guests can use it.
• Food: the official site does not mention halal. Eat out: Susukino (SHINJUKU-TEI, Kirin Urban) is one stop away on the Namboku Line.
• Location: "A 2-minute walk from Nakajima Park Station on the Namboku Subway Line" (official site).
• Rooms for 4: Family Comfort 4 Beds (27 m²) and Deluxe 4 Beds (41 m²); two of the four beds are extra beds (rooms).
• Children: pre-school children can share a parent's bed free; children of primary-school age and above need their own bed and pay the adult rate (FAQ). For kids aged 8 and 5, a triple is enough (the 5-year-old shares a bed).
• Price: RM1,326 for 3 nights (Standard Triple, taxes included).

New Otani Inn Sapporo (between Sapporo Station and Odori, Kita 2 Nishi 1)

• Prayer: the hotel lends prayer mats, a qibla with compass and the Quran to your room (official "For Muslim guests" page, Japanese only).
• Food: a halal set meal ("Halal gozen") at ¥4,000 per person including tax and service, ordered 3 days ahead. Menu A: grilled chicken breast, sashimi (tuna, flounder, sweet shrimp), tempura, grilled salmon, rice and miso soup. The official page does not mention certification or a certifying body, so don't assume it is certified; ask when you book. The hotel's restaurants also take halal orders 3 days ahead (Welcome HOKKAIDO).
• Location: 8 minutes' walk from JR Sapporo Station, 3 minutes from Sapporo Station on the Toho Line, 4 minutes from Odori Station on the Toho Line (access). Sapporo Factory (prayer room and the halal Indian restaurant Taj Mahal) is on the same Kita 2-jo street, to the east.
• Rooms: Moderate Connect Twin (48 m², two connecting rooms, 3–6 people) and a Japanese room (46 m², futons, 1–6 people) (room types). Children up to primary-school age sharing a bed stay free (Q&A).
• Price: RM1,162 for 3 nights (Natural Comfort Floor Triple) with Trip.com's 45% "First Booking" discount for new users; without it, the list price shown is RM645 per night.

JR Tower Hotel Nikko Sapporo (above JR Sapporo Station)

• Prayer: Welcome HOKKAIDO lists a qibla compass to borrow, a qibla mark and prayer mats to borrow; the hotel's own site does not mention them.
• Rooms: the official site goes up to a Triple Room; Trip.com showed no room for 2 adults + 2 kids on 14–17 December. It suits a family of three.
• Location: "direct access to JR Sapporo Station"; the Rapid Airport train from New Chitose takes about 37 minutes (official site).

2. Praying in the city and at the airport

• Sapporo Factory, Sanjo-kan building 3rd floor, 10:00–20:00; "please do not use it for purposes other than prayer" (official site). Taj Mahal is in the same complex: eat and pray in one place.
• Sapporo Mosque: Kita 14 Jo Nishi 4-1-29, Kita-ku. Friday: khutbah 12:15, iqamah 12:45 (schedule shown on 28 September); the mosque sets its schedule each month, so check before December. Women can attend Friday prayers in the women's prayer room on the 4th floor (official site).
• New Chitose Airport: International Terminal 2nd floor, separate rooms for men and women, small purification facilities (official site).
• Halal food by area: halal food in Sapporo (15 places).

3. Three things many families don't know

1. "Muslim-friendly" is not "halal certified". None of the hotels we checked states a halal breakfast or names a certification body. Welcome HOKKAIDO even notes that Sapporo Grand Hotel's breakfast restaurant (6:30–10:00) has "no handling of Halal food". Plan breakfast outside, or read konbini labels (the 3 halal labels in a konbini).
2. Rules for children sharing a bed differ by hotel. MyStays: pre-school only; New Otani: up to primary-school age. This is not the same as "under 12" in Malaysia. Enter your children's real ages when booking so the price shown is right.
3. December: snow can slow the trains. The train from New Chitose to Sapporo takes about 40 minutes, but New Otani Inn notes it can take longer in winter because of snow (access). If you fly home in the morning, leave a margin. Going to Biei or Furano? Check the Tokachidake volcano status first.
