Halal Food in Fukuoka: 12 Places Around Hakata, Tenjin and Hakozaki (Status of Each, 2026)

Short answer. Fukuoka is the city of tonkotsu ramen (pork-bone broth) and yatai (street stalls) built around tonkotsu, so its two most famous foods are not for us (Halal Navi). But within 15 minutes of Hakata Station there is sashimi and Kyushu wagyu with halal meat (Uokura at Miyako Hotel Hakata), a halal version of motsunabe (Kiwamiya, Akasaka) and halal mentaiko (Fukutaro). And since MH started flying KL–Fukuoka direct (2 September 2026), this is the Japanese city closest to Malaysia.

3. What is off-limits, and the substitutes
- Tonkotsu ramen (Ichiran, Ippudo, Hakata ramen): pork-bone broth, cannot be modified. Substitute: YADOKARI (vegan), or save chicken ramen for Osaka/Tokyo.
- Yatai in Nakasu: almost every stall is built around tonkotsu, pork yakitori and alcohol. Walking through for the atmosphere is fine; eating realistically is not (HN).
- Mentaiko (spicy cod roe, Fukuoka's number one souvenir): the marinade usually contains sake or mirin. Fukutaro's head-office shop (Minami-ku) has a halal mentaiko line (HN); other branches may not stock it. For other brands, look for the words shusei (ethanol), seishu (sake) or mirin on the label; the Japanese characters are in the [label sheet](/halal-labels-japan-convenience-store/).
- Motsunabe: usually pork or beef offal with mirin in the broth. Kiwamiya Akasaka is the halal version.
4. Prayer and how to plan the days
- Fukuoka Masjid (Al Nour Islamic Culture Centre), 3-2-18 Hakozaki, Higashi-ku; Hakozaki subway line. Friday times: contact first (HN).
- Tenjin: prayer space on the 3rd floor of ACROS Fukuoka (Fukuoka Prefecture International Exchange Center, ask at the desk) (HN). Airport: prayer room on the 4th floor of the international terminal; 5 minutes by subway to Hakata (HN).
- Day 1 (Hakata): Uokura for sashimi and wagyu. Day 2 (Tenjin): Kiwamiya motsunabe or ZAEKA; Rota Cafe if you miss nasi lemak. Day 3 (Hakozaki): pray at the mosque, eat at NABI SAN or Marhaba, stock up at Yousafzai.
- For Yufuin and Beppu ([day tour](/kyushu-5d4n-kl-fukuoka-direct/)), bring food from Hakata; halal options in the onsen towns are close to none.
