Sources: Halal Gourmet Japan directory, Fukuoka (updated 20 August 2026) and Halal Navi's "Halal Food in Fukuoka 2026" (31 July 2026). Checked 16 September 2026. Halal status can change; I write the status as shown in the source, and you confirm at the restaurant before eating.

Short answer. Fukuoka is the city of tonkotsu ramen (pork-bone broth) and yatai (street stalls) built around tonkotsu, so its two most famous foods are not for us (Halal Navi). But within 15 minutes of Hakata Station there is sashimi and Kyushu wagyu with halal meat (Uokura at Miyako Hotel Hakata), a halal version of motsunabe (Kiwamiya, Akasaka) and halal mentaiko (Fukutaro). And since MH started flying KL–Fukuoka direct (2 September 2026), this is the Japanese city closest to Malaysia.

1. Three statuses: read first

StatusMeaningExamples on this list
Halal certified / halal kitchenCertified meat, no pork or alcohol in the cooking, sometimes separate kitchen and tablewareUokura Hakata, Mr. Kebab (certified), NABI SAN
Pork-free + halal seasoningNo pork, halal seasonings, but meat may be ordinary and the kitchen may be sharedYagorou Kashii, Sushi Shima
Muslim-friendly / self-declared halalAn ordinary restaurant with a halal menu, or one that writes "halal" itself; some serve alcoholRota Cafe (Malaysian), Kafe Toruko, Pain Stock

Same as the [three halal labels at convenience stores](/halal-labels-japan-convenience-store/) and the [Osaka list](/halal-food-osaka-namba-dotonbori/): ask "Halal certified? Pork-free?" before you sit down.

4. Prayer and how to plan the days

Sleeping in Hakata is easiest: everything in list A is walkable and the rest is one subway ride. Business hotels, double rooms US$110–150 a night (24–28 October 2026, [5D4N cost breakdown](/kyushu-5d4n-kl-fukuoka-direct/)); filter for free cancellation on Fukuoka hotels on Trip.com.

I update this list when the sources update a status or a restaurant closes.
