Prayer Rooms in Tokyo: Tokyo Station, Skytree, 4 Mosques, Odaiba, Haneda and Narita
Checked 2026-10-15
Every place below comes from that place's own official page — the station, the tower, the mall, the mosque, the airport — with a source link and the date I checked it (28 Sept 2026 for the mosques, Odaiba and the airports; 15 Oct 2026 for Tokyo Station and Skytree). Where the official page does not state hours or wudu, I write "not stated" — I do not guess.
Short answer. Tokyo Station has a prayer room: inside the JR EAST Travel Service Center at the Marunouchi North exit, 10:00–17:00, room for about 2 people, with a wudu (washing) facility; the door is normally locked — press the intercom and staff will open it (JR East page and the official Chiyoda tourism site, 15 Oct 2026). Tokyo Skytree marks a prayer area on floor 1 (Group Floor) on its official floor guide; nothing more is stated. Tokyo Camii (Yoyogi-Uehara) is open daily 10:00–18:00. Masjid As-Salaam in Okachimachi, between Ueno and Akihabara, holds the five daily prayers and several Friday sessions. At the airports, Narita has rooms before and after security in all three terminals; Haneda T3 before security only; Haneda T1 has no prayer room.

- The Tokyo Station room is small (2 people): a family of four prays in turns. It is inside the service center, so it suits the moment after you get off the Shinkansen or before the Narita Express.
- Tokyo Camii closes at 18:00: for Maghrib and Isha in winter (Maghrib is around 16:30–17:00 in Tokyo in December), the mosques in Okachimachi or Asakusa are the safer evening options — or pray at the hotel.
- Friday: Masjid As-Salaam and Dar-Al-Arqam hold khutbah; Tokyo Camii admits non-Muslim visitors only after 14:30 on Fridays.
2. Tokyo's airports (official pages)
| Airport | Before security | After security | What the official page says | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Narita T1 | Floor 3, Central Building | Floor 2 (international departures) | Multi-faith rooms; wudu and hours not stated | Narita |
| Narita T2 | Floor 1, Main Building | Floor 1 (international departures) | Wudu and hours not stated | Narita |
| Narita T3 | Floor 2, Main Building | Floor 3 (international departures) | Wudu and hours not stated | Narita |

| Haneda T2 International | Floor 3, 2 rooms | Floor 2 (after immigration), 2 rooms | Purification facilities | Haneda |
| Haneda T1 (domestic) | — | — | No prayer room (official page) | Haneda |
For the other 10 airports (Fukuoka, New Chitose, Centrair, Naha, KIX and more): prayer rooms at Japan's airports.
3. Traps: lists that the official pages do not back up
- The big department stores in Shinjuku and Shibuya. Online lists often mention prayer rooms in these malls. On the official pages I checked (Shibuya Scramble Square and Hikarie on 2 Oct 2026; the Takashimaya Shinjuku page for overseas visitors on 15 Oct 2026), I did not find a prayer room mentioned. There may be one at the information desk — ask there rather than relying on a list.
- Tokyo Disney Resort: the official site does not mention a prayer room (checked 2 Oct 2026). Bring a prayer mat and use an open space.
- "Muslim-friendly" does not mean there is a prayer room. A hotel or restaurant that writes "Muslim-friendly" sometimes only means no pork. For hotels where the hotel's own page states a qibla sign or a prayer space, see Tokyo hotels for Muslim families.
4. Planning the day with children
- Day 1 (arriving at Narita/Haneda): pray in the room after security before leaving, or at Tokyo Station (10:00–17:00) once in the city.
- Asakusa–Ueno day: Masjid As-Salaam (Okachimachi) and Masjid Dar-Al-Arqam (Higashi-Asakusa) are within walking or bus distance of Senso-ji.
- Skytree day: prayer area on floor 1 — ask staff for the entrance (the official page only marks it on the floor plan).
- Odaiba day: DECKS Tokyo Beach floor 5.
- Shibuya/Harajuku day: Tokyo Camii, 5 minutes from Yoyogi-Uehara, with a halal market downstairs — good for Dhuhr and lunch.
