Cheap Tokyo Hotels for a Family of Four in the December 2026 School Holidays: Which Week Costs Least

All prices are from Trip.com on 6 October 2026 for 1 room, 2 adults + 2 children (aged 8 and 5), 4 nights (Monday–Friday), in MYR, totals including taxes and fees. "A night" = total ÷ 4. Rate: ¥100 = RM2.583 (ECB, 5 Oct 2026). Malaysian end-of-year school holidays 2026: Group B 5–31 December, Group A 4–31 December (MOE).

Short answer. If you can choose your dates, go in the first or second week of the holidays (7–11 December). That week, rooms for four in Nippori and Asakusa cost RM323–406 a night. Christmas week (21–25 Dec) is 7–23% dearer for the same rooms. New Year week (28 Dec–1 Jan) is 31–143% dearer, and the 10 cheapest rooms that week are mostly hostels or hotels in Narita, Hachioji and the outskirts of Tokyo.

1. The same room in 3 weeks: how much it rises

Totals for 4 nights. The number in brackets is the capacity Trip.com lists; a 5-year-old can often share a bed, but the age limit depends on the hotel. "—" = the hotel was not in the lists checked for that week. Some prices are a "First Booking Deal" (new Trip.com users), so yours may be a little higher.

What it means: for 4 nights at Shinagawa Prince, New Year week costs RM4,464 more than early December — more than 4 nights at Super Hotel Nihombashi (RM3,226) in early December.

2. The cheapest rooms for four on 7–11 December (rated 8.0 or higher)

If you want an ordinary hotel with your own bathroom and a lift, the price rises to RM780–890 a night: Shinagawa Prince Hotel (8.7, RM783), Super Hotel Tokyo Nihombashi Mitsukoshimae (Connecting Room for 4, 9.3, RM807), ISSHUKU Taito Okachimachi III (apartment 40㎡ for 4, RM886) and Urayasu Brighton by Disney (9.4, RM888).

Guest houses and hostels are cheap partly because some share bathrooms or have no lift. Read the room details before you book; only Ouji says "private bathroom" in the room name. Today's prices: Tokyo hotels for 7–11 Dec, 2 adults + 2 kids, on Trip.com (filter "Free cancellation").

3. Why Nippori for families landing at Narita

Nippori is a stop of the Keisei Skyliner from Narita Airport, so the two cheapest hotels above (Hotel Owl and Sakura Hotel Nippori) are close to your first train. From Ueno, Asakusa is 3 stations on the Ginza Line subway. Skyliner Narita → Nippori/Ueno: from RM53.99 on Klook (checked 3 Oct 2026).

If your flight lands late at night, a first night at a Narita Airport hotel costs RM251–280 a night on 7–11 December (Narita Gateway, ART Hotel Narita, HOTEL MYSTAYS Premier Narita).

4. Tokyo accommodation tax

Today Tokyo charges ¥100–200 per person per night only for rooms of ¥10,000 or more per person per night; below ¥10,000 there is no tax (Tokyo Metropolitan Tax Bureau). A family room at RM323–474 a night ≈ ¥12,500–18,400 per room, or ≈ ¥3,100–4,600 per person — no tax. From 1 April 2027 it becomes 3% for rooms of ¥13,000 or more per person: what changes.

5. Four things before you book

1. Enter your children's real ages. The prices above are for children aged 8 and 5; the age limit for sharing a bed free differs by hotel.
2. Book a room you can cancel free. Many rooms in these searches can be cancelled free until late November or early December; read each room's terms.
3. Going to Disney? Tokyo Disney's 1-Day Passport on weekdays 1–23 December is ¥10,900 for adults and ¥5,600 for children, and ¥12,400 for adults on Saturdays and 25–26 December (official calendar): one more reason to go in early December. Food and prayer: Tokyo Disney for Muslim families.
