Checked 5 Nov 2026 on the official pages of Narita, Haneda, Kansai, Fukuoka and New Chitose airports, the Digital Agency (Visit Japan Web), Japan Customs, Keisei, JR East, Tokyo Monorail, Nankai, Nishitetsu, Fukuoka City Subway and JR Hokkaido. Flight times come from each airport's own arrivals page or timetable, not from the airlines. Narita, Fukuoka and New Chitose prayer rooms were checked on 3 Nov 2026. Anything we couldn't confirm is marked "not verified".

Short answer. Landing at 07:05 in Fukuoka on MH56, or 22:40 at Haneda on AirAsia X, the order is the same: (1) immigration with the Visit Japan Web QR code → (2) bags, then customs (the same QR code) → (3) pray once you're out in the public area → (4) train or bus into the city. Step 3 is the one to plan. None of the five airports lists a prayer room before immigration and customs. The rooms you can reach after you exit are on other floors: Narita T2 1F, Haneda T3 3F (departure lobby), KIX T1 3F, Fukuoka 4F, New Chitose 2F. Two other things change the plan. Haneda's AirAsia X lands at 22:40, and no official last-train time was found for us, so check yours before you fly. Fukuoka's bus to Hakata is cashless: have an IC card or a contactless credit card. Checked 5 Nov 2026.

3. Things that catch families out

  1. No prayer room before customs. Immigration and baggage claim can take a while, and none of the five airports lists a room on that side. If a prayer time falls while you are inside, you'll be praying after you exit. Pick the room in the table before you land, so nobody has to search for it with the bags.
  2. Haneda after 22:40. AirAsia X D7522 lands at 22:40. Haneda's official page gives journey times (about 30 min to Tokyo Station), but we found no official last-train time: Keikyu's site blocked our check. Look up the last train for your hotel's station before you fly, or book a hotel you can reach late.
  3. Fukuoka's bus doesn't want cash. The Nishitetsu airport bus to Hakata has been on a fully cashless trial since 3 Dec 2024. It takes IC cards (Suica, ICOCA, nimoca and others) and Visa, JCB, Mastercard or Amex by touch. Cash only "if unavoidable", and you tell the driver.
  4. Fukuoka's subway isn't at the international terminal. It starts at the domestic terminal. Take the free shuttle bus first (from 06:18; every 5–6 min in the daytime). The subway runs 05:30–00:25.
  5. The Haruka price is changing. JR West's Haruka one-way ticket for foreign visitors (bought online or overseas) shows ¥1,900 adult to Shin-Osaka and ¥2,700 to Kyoto. The same page says the price changes for tickets sold from 1 Nov 2026 and doesn't say which price the table shows. Not verified: check the price when you buy.
  6. Skyliner prices come in two parts. Keisei lists the fare (¥1,280 adult) and the Skyliner charge (¥1,300) separately. Together that is ¥2,580 per adult and ¥1,290 per child, our sum.

4. A day that starts at 07:05 (MH56 into Fukuoka)

Malaysia Airlines' KL–Fukuoka route goes daily from 1 Dec.

5. Not verified (5 Nov 2026)
