Prayer Rooms in Osaka: Osaka Station, Namba CITY, Kaiyukan, EXPOCITY, Ibaraki Mosque and KIX
Checked 2026-10-18
Every place below comes from that place's own official page — the station, the mall, the mosque, the airport — with a source link and the date I checked it (18 Oct 2026, except Tempozan Marketplace on 28 Sept 2026). Where the official page does not state hours or wudu, I write "not stated" — I do not guess.
Short answer. Osaka Station (Umeda) has a prayer room, free for anyone, at the 1F South Gate (west end) — but you must register first at the Osaka Station City information counter, North Gate Building 3F, a different building and floor. Hours 11:00–18:00, last registration 17:30, 20 minutes per use (Osaka Station City official page, 18 Oct 2026). Namba CITY has a room on B1F; ask at the information counter on B2F, 11:30–20:00. LaLaport EXPOCITY (near Expo Park) has men's and women's rooms, each with a wudu facility — ask at the 1F counter. Tempozan Marketplace, next to Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan, marks a prayer room on 3F on its floor guide. Osaka Ibaraki Mosque holds Friday prayers every week. At KIX, the official page lists prayer rooms in Terminal 1 only, open 24 hours.
231 places — halal food, prayer rooms and mosques — in 19 prefectures of Japan, each with its official source and check date. US$6.99, one-time, free updates. See the map →
1. In the city: 5 places whose own official page mentions a prayer room
| Place | Where | Hours | What the official page says | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Osaka Station — prayer room | Room: JR Osaka 1F, South Gate (west end). Register: Osaka Station City information counter, North Gate Building 3F | 11:00–18:00 (last registration 17:30), 20 minutes per use | Free, anyone may use it; fill in a form at the counter first | Osaka Station City, FAQ |
| Namba CITY — prayer room | Main Building B1F (opposite the Shoryu Inaka soba shop). Ask at the Namba CITY Information counter, B2F | Requests 11:30–20:00 | Prayer room listed among the information counter's services | Namba CITY |
| Tempozan Marketplace — prayer room | 3F, next to Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan (Osaka Bay) | Not stated | "Prayer room" icon on the official floor guide; how to use it is not stated | Kaiyukan, floor guide |
| LaLaport EXPOCITY — prayer room | 2F, Orange side (Suita, near Expo Park) | Not stated (mall hours) | A men's room and a women's room, each with a wudu facility; go to the 1F Hikari no Hiroba general counter first | LaLaport EXPOCITY |
| Osaka Ibaraki Mosque | 4-6-13 Toyokawa, Ibaraki — Toyokawa Station (Osaka Monorail) | Friday prayers every week; other times not stated | New building completed; Friday and Saturday activities resumed (Quran and Arabic classes) | Osaka Ibaraki Mosque |
- Register first at Osaka Station: the room is on 1F, the counter is in the North Gate Building on 3F. With a family, one person goes up to register while the others wait near the South Gate. Last registration is 17:30 — Maghrib in Osaka in December is around 16:47–16:57 (National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, 2026), so Maghrib fits, Isha does not.
- 20 minutes per use: a family of 4 prays in turns; plan the time.
- Namba CITY until 20:00: the latest option in the city for Maghrib and Isha on a Namba–Dotonbori day.
- EXPOCITY is the most comfortable for families: separate men's and women's rooms, both with wudu. Good for an Expo Park day.
2. Kansai International Airport (KIX)
| Place | Where | What the official page says | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| KIX Terminal 1 | 3F, and in the international departure gate area (Main Building and North Wing) | Prayer rooms and wudu spaces separated by gender; free for all visitors; open 24 hours (stated on the Japanese page; the English page gives no hours) | KIX (Japanese) |
| KIX Terminal 2 | — | The official page does not list a prayer room in Terminal 2 (the location filter offers Terminal 1 only) | KIX |
The international gate area is for passengers after security only. For 10 more airports: prayer rooms at Japan's airports.
3. Traps: lists the official pages do not back up
- Kuromon Market. The market's official site has a "halal" shop category, but I did not find a prayer room mentioned on it (checked 18 Oct 2026, home and access pages). Halal food does not mean a place to pray — pray at Namba CITY before or after.
- Universal Studios Japan. USJ's official site would not open from our network, so I could not confirm whether there is a prayer room. Bring a prayer mat and ask at Guest Services on the day.
- "Muslim-friendly" does not mean a prayer room. For hotels whose own page states the qibla direction, see Osaka hotels for Muslim families. For food: halal food in Osaka.
4. Plan the day with kids
- Arrival day at KIX: pray in Terminal 1 (open 24 hours) before the train into the city — useful for night and early-morning flights.
- Umeda day: Osaka Station (register at North Gate Building 3F, before 17:30).
- Namba–Dotonbori–Kuromon day: Namba CITY B1F, ask at B2F (until 20:00).
- Kaiyukan day: Tempozan Marketplace 3F, the building next to the aquarium.
- Expo Park day: LaLaport EXPOCITY 2F; on Fridays, Osaka Ibaraki Mosque on the Osaka Monorail line (Toyokawa Station).
- Day trip to Kobe: Kobe Mosque, the oldest mosque in Japan — Kobe and Himeji with Muslim kids.
